I met my friend there: it was his first time.... Not mine: it really one of my favorite authentic Chinese place in West LA! We started with some Shu Mai: that was a true disappointment ! It was my first time ordering Dim Sums at that restaurant, I just wanted to give it a try. They were small and dry. I not ordered that again there then we had a lunch family style where we shared a few dishes: half roast duck a seafood, stirfry rice (with crab and scallops) And a delicious stir fried squid and shrimp and rock cod with chow mein. All these dishes besides the duck, we selected from the lunch special menu which are around $1195 each! I love that place And I highly recommend it to all

This place was good! Traditional style Chinese food. In a small parking lot but it's very clean and a nice vibe. Great option for the west side. Sizzling rice soup and dry style beef chow fun were delicious. Service is quick and polite. They have lunch specials 11am-3pm every day, even the weekend!!

After a long day of watching the Chinese new year parade, Cassie F. and were starving so we hippity hoppity hopped to Hop Woo. A stampede of parade goers came in shortly after we put our name on the list. While we were waiting, a pair of Chinese dragons came and do their little dance and eating the lettuce which was super entertaining! We were lucky to catch it before our lunch. The wait was about 30 mins which was fair considering it being extremely busy. It was a little hard to place our order since they were very short staffed. We ended up ordering the chicken chow mien (w/Shanghai noodles) and chicken with mushroom with rice. The chicken chow mien was the one of the best noodles I had in my life! The chicken with mushroom with rice on the other hand came out as shrimp with mushroom with rice. They got my order wrong. I didn't want to wait another 30 minutes just to get my dish so I settled for the shrimp and mushroom which exceeded my expectations! This place is considered authentic for Chinese food. A solid choice if you are ever in Chinatown!

Delicious and reliable. I love the drooling chicken / chicken in chili oil and the soup with fish and rattan numbing pepper.

I was a little surprised when my dad said to have lunch at Hop Woo in the west side when we could easily meet in SGV somewhere. But I should never doubt my dad's taste for Chinese food. The food was delish and the portion sizes did not disappoint. Be patient with service because the restaurant is definitely understaffed. I liked Hop Woo because there are so many options. You can choose from Chinese seafood (like lobster with long life noodles), Szechuan spicy food with numbing sensations, or Panda Express Chinese food. Since my dad is a regular he knew exactly what to get (non-Panda type foods). My favorite dish was something that I had never had--Szechuan baby cauliflower stir fried with pork--mostly because I have never had baby cauliflower in any Chinese dish. The other Szechuan dish we had was a braised fish which is normally drenched in red soup but this one was in clear broth, so just numbing without the spice. My little one ate everything we served her that wasn't spicy, and enjoyed that there was a tank with fresh seafood. I would definitely return and it does get busy. Most people appeared to be regulars like my dad, all coming in for exactly what they wanted.
